NORFOLK—Herbert “BB” Brewer died Aug. 27, 2008, at his home in Norfolk.

Born Nov. 6, 1929, in Capron, he was the fifth child born to Julius Brewer and Mabel Cumbo Brewer.

Mr. Brewer served honorably in the Army, Air Force and retired from the Naval Air Reserve. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a letter carrier.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Luther Brewer, Bruce Brewer, Nathan Brewer and Raymond Brewer.

Survivors include his two children, Ruth Brewer of Chesapeake and Sumone Hewins of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Felicia Brewer, Zevantae Hewins, Zenia Whitaker; great-grandchild, Christopher Brewer; brothers, Herman, Rudolph and Linberg Brewer; longtime paramour, Monica Boney; special friend, Frank Meredith of Norfolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted today at 11 a.m. in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
