HERTFORD, N.C.—Marjorie Matthews Holland, 86, of Albemarle Village, died Sept. 7, 2008, in Chowan Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility eight days after suffering a massive stroke.
Born in Perquimans County, N.C., she was the widow of Willie Morgan Holland and the daughter of the late Richard Eskridge “Jake” and Willie Lee Turner Matthews.
She worked as a sales associate with a department store and was a member of Hertford United Methodist Church, a volunteer with the Newbold-White House and was a charter member of the Perquimans County High School Beta Club.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Margaret Ann Owen and Darrold of South Mills, N.C., Patricia Dianne Bateman and Sidney of New Bern, N.C., and Susan Juanita Thomas and Richard of Camden, N.C.; three sons and their wives, William Michael Holland and Nancy of Drewryville, Richard Stephen Holland and Sheryl of Port Orchard, Wash., and Jon Allen Holland of Virginia Beach; two half sisters, Ida M. Saunders and Carolyn Meads; half brother, Will Matthews, all of Hertford; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services with the Rev. Gayla Collins and William Eure officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Wood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the committal at Hertford United Methodist Church, 200 Dobbs St.
