FRANKLIN—Frances Edwards Bowen, 73, died Oct. 11, 2008.
She was born in Brunswick County, a daughter of the late Eddie Lee and Pearl Wray Edwards, and was predeceased by a son, Richard Smith Bowen Jr.
Mrs. Bowen was a graduate of Longwood College, taught for many years in the Franklin School System, and served on the school board.
After her retirement, she worked at the James L. Camp, Jr. YMCA. She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, its Faithful Workers Sunday School Class, and served as a deacon.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Richard Smith Bowen Sr.; two sons, Mark Alan Bowen of Mechanicsville and Troy Wray Bowen and wife Susan of Durham, N.C.; three grandchildren, Allyson, Kelli and Noah Bowen; one sister, Anne Woodruff of Emporia; four brothers, Carlson Edwards and wife Frances of Gaston, N.C., Dennis Edwards and Lathan Edwards, both of Gasburg, and Stuart Edwards and wife Sherry of Powhatan; one brother-in-law, Marshall Bowen of Philadelphia, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted Monday at Franklin Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. A. Richard Childress and the Rev. Sharon James officiating.
Interment followed in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
