COURTLAND—Two men are being held without bond in Southampton County Jail on charges stemming from a string of burglaries.
Steven Eugene Campbell Jr., 30, of the 26000 block of Pine Haven Drive in Courtland and Matthew Aaron Hobbs, 20, of the 2100 block of Elmwood Drive in Franklin, were arrested on two charges each of break and enter and grand larceny.
“The warrants come as a result of an investigation on multiple break-ins conducted by members of the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office where information was developed and relayed to Suffolk Police Department,” Detective Cpl. Richard Morris, spokesman for the Southampton law enforcement agency, said in a press release. “Suffolk Police Department was then able to recover items taken from several individuals in recent break-ins from Southampton County and other jurisdictions. The recovered items were returned to the owners after being properly identified.”
Morris said burglars appeared to be looking for jewelry, guns and power tools. The investigation is continuing, he said.
“Additional charges are possible in connection with these incidents,” Morris said.
