WINDSOR—Christian Daniels scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Windsor High School to a 4-2 win over Appomattox Regional Governors School in the Tri-Rivers District tournament championship game Friday night.
The Dukes avenged a loss to the Dragons late in the season, which, along with a tie against Surry County High School, had dropped Windsor into second place in the district.
Windsor struck first at 25:56 of the first half.
Daniels took a shot at goalie Alexander Kolb, which bounced off Kolb’s hands. Windsor’s Paul Bryant was there to knock in the rebound for a 1-0 lead.
Four minutes later, Malik Thomas ducked down to knock in a head past Windsor goalie Jacob Tynes to tie the game at 1-1.
The Dukes (8-5-3) took the lead for good with 2:06 left to play in the first half when Daniels scored on a shot that ricocheted off an ARGS player.
Daniels then scored during stoppage time late in the first half on a corner kick. The ball slid through Kolb’s hands to give the Dukes a 3-1 lead.
Windsor was knocked out of the postseason last year in the first round by King William High School.
