Mary N. Bridgers
CONWAY, N.C.—Mary Naomi Bridgers, 91, died Aug. 4, 2009, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, N.C., after a brief illness.
She had been preceded in death by her husband, of 25 years, J. Ivey Bridgers; parents, Brode Thomas and Nina Lloyde Wynne Duke; and sisters, Nadine Duke, Adelaide D. Fuller, Grace D. Parker and Page D. Thompson.
Originally from Valentine, her family moved to Jackson, N.C., where she lived most of her childhood.
She then attended nursing school in Norfolk and devoted her life to attending to the sick and injured through the offices of Jackson Health Clinic, Roanoke Chowan Hospital and Dr. J.A. Fleetwood Sr. and J.A. Fleetwood Jr.
Mrs. Bridgers was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, John Ivey Bridgers Jr. and wife Connie of Conway, Frank Bridgers of Raleigh, N.C. and Tim Bridgers of home; one grandson, Benjamin Ivey Bridgers of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; one sister, Clarine Knight of Boykins; and one brother, Brode T. Duke Jr. and wife Helen of Charlotte, N.C.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services was held Friday in Zion United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Drew, Brian Deitrich and Sidney Collins presiding.
Burial followed in the Town of Conway cemetery.

Bridgers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
