COURTLAND—A 19-year-old Courtland man was arrested after an altercation that sent an 18-year-old man to the hospital with multiple stab wounds during the Southampton-Park View high school football game Friday night.
Southampton County Detective Cpl. Richard Morris said Ivan Kristian Blow of the 21000 block of Bateman Street is charged with one count of malicious wounding and is being held in the Southampton County Jail without bond. The charge is a class 3 felony punishable by five to 20 years in prison.
Morris said the victim was transported to Southampton Memorial Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. during the closing minutes of the Southampton High football game. It occurred within a fenced-in area just behind the east end zone of the football field. Morris said investigators recovered a knife from the scene.
Rescue squad transmissions indicated that several different air ambulance services, including the Nightingale service from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, were contacted to airlift the victim from Courtland, but the victim was ultimately transported to SMH for treatment.
The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
