James and Juanita Edwards were honored with a 70th wedding anniversary reception at Adams Grove Baptist Church in Emporia on Saturday, Jan. 9. Their anniversary was on Jan. 5. They are now residents at Emporia Manor in Emporia.
The reception was given by their children Elaine and Ben Wheeler, Emporia, Clifton Edwards, Como, N.C. and Glen and Fran Edwards, Boykins. Their grandchildren are Robert W. Edwards. Como, N.C. and Melundy and Brian Vandiford, Pendelton, N.C. Great grandchildren Bridgette Vandiford of Pendelton, N.C., Brittany Vandiford, Pendelton, N.C. and Jonathan Edwards, Como, N.C.
There was a table with a bud vase containing a white carnation, baby’s breath, greenery and a white and silver bow in memory of their deceased daughter, Phyllis Edwards Clary and her picture.
Also, a bud vase with a white carnation, baby’s breat, greenery and a white and silver bow in memory of their deceased grandson, Robert B. Wheeler Jr. and his picture. Also, on the table was a family picture when the family was much younger.
The fellowship hall was decorated with white lace cloths on the tables, silver garland running down the length of the tables with silver pine cones in clear vases and silver small containers holding tea lights. On the piano was a fresh arrangement of flowers. Also a basket for guest to put anniversary cards in.
Elaine Wheeler, daughter and some church members helped prepare and serve the food. A big thank you to all that helped. All flowers were provided by Monte’s Florist in Emporia. Pictures were taken by a variety of people. There were guests from Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
James and Juanita received a 70th anniversary letter from Gov. Tim Kaine, letter from Sen. Mark Warner and a letter from Sen. Jim Webb.
