COURTLAND — The Southampton County Board Supervisors voted Monday to approve a joint contract with Franklin for garbage recycling.

The Franklin City Council is expected to approve the contract at its meeting tonight.

Last month, both bodies approved letters of intent to award a 39-month contract for recycling to Moody’s/AVES of Smithfield. Franklin and Southampton County have been working to find a new recycling provider since the Southeastern Public Service Authority announced last year that it would stop providing the service.

Isle of Wight County was included in the joint request for proposals but opted to pursue its own contract.
