COURTLAND—A Franklin man was sentenced in Southampton County Circuit Court for a 2008 shooting in Courtland.
Chief Circuit Court Judge Westbrook T. Parker sentenced Eric Parker on Tuesday to 50 years in prison, with 30 suspended, for aggravated malicious wounding and three years in prison for the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Eric Parker was also ordered to pay $152,842.81 in restitution.
The charges stemmed from the May 31, 2008, shooting of Brandon Keith Turner at an apartment complex on Oak Trail in Courtland.
“I want to say my condolences to the family, but I had no parts of that,” Eric Parker said before his sentencing.
Before handing down sentencing in the case, Parker said too many young people are turning to guns to solve their problems.
“Guns don’t solve anything,” he said.
Turner was shot and killed at the same apartment complex last March.
