The Franklin High School girls’ tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Greensville County High School on Tuesday.
The Lady Broncos had to forfeit the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches and the No. 3 doubles matches due to an absence of varsity players.
In exhibition play, Franklin eighth-grader Jeannetta Sessoms won 9-8 against Genail Logan of Greensville, prevailing 7-1 in the tiebreaker.
The FHS varsity team is led by Diamond Bowers at No. 1 singles, Cierra Vaughn at No. 2, Samantha Bruck at No. 3, Tierra Carey at No. 4, Yasmine Bottoms at No. 5 and Kurnita Boone at No. 6.
“The varsity six are all in their second year of play and are progressing well,” said Coach Calvin Sing. “The team also has nine enthusiastic eighth-graders who will be playing exhibition matches this season and contributing to the team in the coming seasons.”
The Lady Broncos stand at 0-3 for the season, having lost twice to Nansemond River High School.
