Junk, trash to be picked up free

FRANKLIN — Franklin residents can get rid of excess trash, junk and debris next week at no additional cost.

Monday through Friday have been declared Amnesty Days — an opportunity for residents to clean out yards and homes of unwanted items, including refuse debris, old appliances, tires, lawn mowers, and more at no cost.

During Clean Up Week, residents may place materials to be picked up by trash collectors in piles next to the street.

Russ Pace, director of Public Works, said crews will pick up these extra items along with trash on residents’ standard pickup days.

“All next week is amnesty week, but it only applies to you for the one day of your pickup,” Pace said.

The city will not pick up construction debris, trees, lot-cleaning materials, paint or other hazardous materials. Those items should be taken to the Southeastern Public Service Authority transfer station on Route 671.
