The City Council will hold another budget workshop at 6:30 tonight, May 17, to review funding for individual departments in the city’s proposed 2011 fiscal year budget.
City Manager June Fleming presented the proposed $57 million budget during council’s regular meeting last week. The department-by-department review of budget requests began at a workshop last Wednesday.
Issues that raised concern during last week’s session included the elimination of travel expenses for city employees with training requirements and cuts in support to outside agencies.
Mayor Jim Councill said the proposed cuts in funding to outside agencies that serve the city’s citizens give him “a sense of angst and concern.”
“I just strongly think that we ought to support more that we have been able to do in this existing budget,” he said.
The workshop will be held at City Hall.
