Windsor’s DeMello wins Tri-Rivers tennis title

SUFFOLK—Windsor High’s Dustan DeMello won the Tri-Rivers District Tournament in singles on Friday at the Howard Mast Tennis Complex.
DeMello advanced to the finals after defeating Matthew Cody of Appomattox Regional Governors School of Petersburg 6-2, 2-6 and 6-0. In the finals DeMello defeated Perry Lowder also of Appomattox Regional 6-2, 6-1.
In girls’ singles final action, Shori Spencer of Windsor High School dropped the championship match to Kayla Upadhyaya of Appomattox Regional final action 6-0 and 7-6.
After winning the first set of the doubles championship match at the Tri-Rivers District Tennis Tournament Saturday with scores of 7-6 in a tie-break, the Windsor Dukes team of DeMello and Zach Stenger-Hayden dropped two sets in the championship match. Perry Lowder and Matthew Cody of Appomattox Regional Governors School of Peterburg came out on top for the remaining two sets with scores of 6-2, 6-1 to ice the win.
In the girls’ doubles championship match, the Dukes team of Shori Spencer and Mary Darden was defeated 6-4, 6-1 by the team of Kayla Upadhyaya and Shelby Flody of Appomattox Regional.
