MURFREESBORO, N.C.—A Southampton County woman accused of trying to run over a police officer will be arraigned on several charges at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3.
Martha Gibson, 45, of Courtland, will be arraigned in Hertford County District Court in Winton.
Gibson is charged with two felonies, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official. She also faces two misdemeanor charges of simple assault, one charge of resisting arrest and one for communicating threats.
The charges stem from an incident on July 11 in Murfreesboro. Authorities say Gibson twice attempted to run over a police officer from that jurisdiction with the van she was driving. She was arrested shortly after fleeing the vehicle.
Hertford County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mary Person said Tuesday that Gibson remains in Hertford County Jail in Winton on $500,000 bond.
