FRANKLIN—A Franklin woman has been charged with robbing a convenience store after allegedly accosting the clerk with a butcher knife and biting him.
An investigator with the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office arrested Jamila Shey Parker, 32, in the Thursday night armed robbery at the Franklin Eagle Mart on Carrsville Highway near Airway Center Plaza. Police made the arrest after receiving a tip.
According to investigator J.P. Hopko, someone read an article about the armed robbery in The Tidewater News and went to authorities on Saturday morning.
“They gave me information on who she was and her address,” Hopko said. “As I was arriving (at her home), she was on her way to flee.”
Parker was allegedly planning to go to Roanoke. Hopko asked her to take a ride with him to the Franklin Eagle Mart, and she agreed.
“The clerk was able to identify her,” Hopko said.
Parker two days earlier allegedly went into the store with a knife and came up behind clerk Serdar Rustemoglu. Parker cut Rustemoglu twice with the knife and bit him twice, Hopko said.
The clerk was treated at the store for his injuries.
The robber — who got away with only a ball cap, but left hers behind — was caught on surveillance video both inside and outside the store.
Authorities charged Parker with robbery and malicious wounding. She is being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk without bond.
