WINDSOR—Sixty-five players turned out for this year’s Windsor High School varsity and junior varsity football squads.
The Dukes lost some key players to graduation and have seven returning starters.
Among returning players for the varsity squad are senior tight- and defensive-ends Austin Winkles and Michael Jackson, senior offensive and defensive lineman Justin Daniels and junior running and defensive back R.J. Edwards.
As of Aug. 20, Head Coach Chuck Parrish hadn’t named his starting quarterback. The Dukes were playing a home scrimmage that evening.
“We’ve got an idea, but I want to try things out to be certain,” Parrish said.
Windsor finished 1-3 in the Tri-Rivers District in 2009 and was 4-6 overall. It was Parrish’s first year at the helm after serving as an assistant coach for eight years.
“We would like to improve on that record,” he said. “It’s a tough district with teams from Franklin, Sussex, Charles City and Surry.”
Assistant coaches are Joe Campbell, Ronnie Harry, Danny Gottfried, Rossie Brock and Adam Bryant.
