WILLIAMSBURG—Southampton High School sophomore Billy Britton finished 31st out of 64 players during this week’s Group AA regional golf tourney at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg.

Britton, who shot a 181 over the two days, was the only player for the Indians to qualify for the tournament. During his freshman year, Britton placed 60th in the regional tourney.

“He moved up 30 places as a sophomore,” said Indians Coach Bob Woulf. “If he improves as much as a junior, that will put him in the top 20 and would make him eligible (for the state tournament). It’s a logical progression. He should be very competitive as a junior.”

Britton qualified for the regional tournament after scoring an 85 and placing ninth overall at the Southside District Tournament at Mill Quarter.

The Indians finished in fourth place in the district with a 4-4 record.
