FRANKLIN—The Franklin Mustangs — behind the running attack of Javonte Baker and Ayonte Holley — defeated the Courtland Indians 20-0 Monday night at Armory Field.
Baker scored two touchdowns on scampers of 12 and 15 yards, while Holley busted up the middle for a 30-yard score. Both added extra points.
The Mustang defense was once again tough to run against as Coach Oma Underwood’s crew notched its second shutout of the season. The Franklin defense was led this week by nose-guard Darius Evans, linebacker Dillon McKenzie, cornerback Petrell Hunt and back Stephen Pullen.
The offensive line was given credit after the game from Mustang Head Coach Rob Carter.
“Center Caleb Bradshaw, guard Fredquon Lassiter and tackle Jonathan Hall all did a very good job tonight,” Carter said.
He went on to say that Courtland played very physical, and his team has to become more physical in the future to continue its success.
In the first game of the evening, the Franklin B Team defeated the Indian B Team 27-0, and the Holland Razorbacks defeated the Boykins Bulldogs.
After three weeks into the season, the standings are Holland 3-0, Franklin 2-0, Boykins 0-2-1, Windsor 0-1-1 and Courtland 0-2. No B Team standings were reported.
Next week’s action is at Southampton High School. The games slated for the evening are B teams Boykins versus Courtland at 6:15 p.m., followed by A team action at 7 with Franklin versus Windsor. At 8 p.m. rivals Boykins and Courtland will play.
