COURTLAND—Southampton High School will be the setting at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, for the world-famous folk group the New Christy Minstrels.
Sponsored by the Franklin-Southampton Concert Association, this second concert of the season promises to be “one of our best,” said Nancy Rowe, president of the association.
“The group’s accomplishments during more than 44 years in the public eye include Grammy awards, numerous gold records and an appearance at the White House,” Rowe said.
The seven-member combo made its national television debut on “The Andy Williams Show” in the 1960s. Under the direction of founder Randy Sparks , the group, which still has five of the original members, has delighted audiences around the country and abroad.
Known as Legends of Folk Music, the musicians were awarded a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars in 2009. In addition to presenting their own brand of music, they have opened doors for such performers as Kenny Rogers, John Denver and Kim Carnes.
“I think we’re in for a real treat,” Rowe said.
Season tickets are still available, but for those who want to purchase them at the door, the cost is $40 for adults and $10 students.
