FRANKLIN—Franklin High School Coach Danny Dillon was pleased with the boys’ basketball team’s 47-32 Tri-Rivers District win over Appomattox Regional Governor’s School on Tuesday.

“We practiced a lot during the Christmas holidays to get us up to par,” Dillon said, referring to the three-week delay in the season after most of the players were members of the football team that made it to the state semifinals.

In scoring during the home game, senior Justin Grant with 23 points led the Broncos, and junior Jalen Vincent added 11.

The Broncos are 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the district.

After each team scored only 4 points in the first quarter, the Broncos came back strong in the second quarter with Vincent making a 3-point play to put Franklin on top 7-4. Grant went to work and tipped in 12 points during the quarter, including a 3-pointer which helped the Broncos sail to a 34-22 lead at the half.

The third quarter was slow, but Vincent added two more 3-pointers and Delvontae Boone made one, allowing the Broncos to keep the lead at 45-32 at the end of the period.

The Dragons fought hard in the final quarter, but Coach Ricky Barefoot added that unlike the Broncos, his Dragons could not finish their shots as they had many opportunities.

“Those 3-pointers early in the third quarter hurt us,” Barefoot said.
