Zigmond F. Oshman

ISLE OF WIGHT—Zigmond Francis Oshman, 91, passed away at home with his family by his side, on January 10, 2011.
Born in Shenandoah, Pa., Frank was the son of the late Alexander and Sophie Oshman.
Formerly of Norfolk, he held residence in Isle of Wight since 2001.
Growing up and working in the coal mines of Pennsylvania, Frank took the opportunity to participate in building part of the famous Skyline Drive. Frank then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp on July 5, 1940, and proudly served during World War II.
He then continued his career at Norfolk Naval Base as a materials manager, retiring in 1978 after 37 years of federal service.
In retirement, he dedicated himself to his family and friends. He was always available and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He was preceded in death in 1998 by his wife of 54 years, Annie Mae Edwards Oshman, and two sisters, Clara Sissick and Bertha Kissinger.
Frank leaves to cherish his memories his son, William Oshman and his wife, Carole, of Franklin; four grandchildren, Robin Conner and husband, Donald, of Suffolk, David Oshman and Tammy, of Smithfield, Stacy Pauley and husband, Chris, of Franklin and Karen Russo and husband, Ruben, of Germany; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a sister Sylvia Oshman of Bridgeport, Conn.; a brother, Alexander Oshman of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 14, at Bethany United Methodist Cemetery with Rev. Bill Dawson officiating. The family will receive friends in the home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Building Fund, 37527 Seacock Chapel Road, Zuni, Va., 23898.
