WILLIAMSBURG—Isle of Wight Academy boys rallied in the second half but ultimately fell short against Williamsburg Christian Academy, 79-37, Tuesday night.
The loss was the first for the Chargers (15-3, 8-1) in the Metro Conference; they remain a game ahead of the Eagles (11-6, 7-2) in the standings.
IWA plays at conference leader Atlantic Shores Saturday.
A sluggish first half ultimately doomed IWA. WCA led 40-8 at halftime, largely on the strength of guard Deron Powers, who had 16 of his 21 points in the first two quarters. The Eagles also got a lift from running mate Djay Broaddus, who added 11 of his 18
over that same period.
The Chargers shot 34 percent from the field for the game and had 10 turnovers in the first half. They did not score their second field goal of the game until 2:51 remained in the second quarter, when sophomore center Nathan Sivertson scored to make it 33-6.
Senior guard Brandon Privette led IWA with 18 points.
