COURTLAND—The third annual auction to benefit Mahone’s Tavern and Museum will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Courtland Ruritan Building.
Auctioneer Jay Bradshaw said the sale will feature something for everyone — antiques, including some furniture and collectables as well as newer items. Donations from area businesses will include gift certificates and merchandise.
“We are still seeking donations,” Bradshaw said. “If anyone has saleable items that they would like to dispose of, we would be happy to take them.”
Monetary donations also will be accepted; all donations are tax-deductible.
Urquhart-Gillette Camp 1471, Sons of Confederate Veterans, purchased the tavern several years ago and is converting it into a museum. Proceeds from the auction will go toward paying the debt and preserving the property.
“The tavern is where General William Mahone spent his early years and is a major part of our history,” Bradshaw said. “We will eventually have the museum open to the public.”
Barbecue dinners and beverages will available at the auction.
