COURTLAND—Southampton Academy junior Rachel Holland led with 18 points — going 10-for-14 from the free-throw line — for a 41-35 win over visiting Fuqua on Wednesday night.
“Rachel did an excellent job shooting foul shots,” said Lady Raider Coach Chris Pope.
The Virginia Commonwealth Conference victory improves the Raiders’ overall record to 5-8 and 3-8 in the league.
SA senior Catherine Glover scored 11 points and senior Ginny Taylor led with 13 rebounds.
The Lady Raiders led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and 20-15 at the half. They went into the final quarter with a 29-25 lead.
“It was close throughout,” Pope said. “We were up by 8 in the fourth quarter. We started holding the ball, and they pulled within 4 at one time. We were able to hold them in the end.”
