IWA conference tournament opens Thursday

PORTSMOUTH—Isle of Wight Academy finished the regular season 19-7 overall and 11-5 in the Metro Conference and will begin play Thursday night in the conference tournament.
In Friday night action, sophomore Nathan Sivertson blocked a shot by Portsmouth Christian’s Clay Evancho as time expired to preserve a 64-62 win by the Chargers.
Sivertson had, with 13.9 seconds to play, given IWA a 64-62 lead by making one of two foul shots. Portsmouth’s Jacob McNeil cut the IWA lead to a point, 64-63, with a field goal with 35 second left.
Charger guard Brandon Privette gave his team some breathing room, breaking a 60-60 tie with a three-pointer from the right corner with 50 seconds remaining.
Privette finished with a game-high 27 points; Sivertson finished with 8 points.
