Peck pitches no-hitter for Southampton-Sussex All-Stars

WINDSOR—Hunter Peck on Tuesday pitched a no-hitter for the Southampton-Sussex Nationals Pony 13- and 14-year-old All-Star team.
Peck struck out 13 batters and walked one during the seven-inning, 11-1 win over the Windsor All-Stars in Windsor. He also led the team on defense, with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs.
Tae-Tae Holloman hit a double and Dylan Beale had two RBIs.
During Monday’s opening game of the district All-Star tournament, Southampton-Sussex defeated Smithfield 14-13. The game was called in the fourth inning after the lights at the Windsor field quit working; Southampton Sussex was ahead 8-6.
Play was reconvened Tuesday. Holloman was the winning pitcher. On defense, Southampton-Sussex had five hits and 16 walks.
Southampton-Sussex is 2-0 and was scheduled to play Smithfield on Thursday night. Results were not available as of press time. If Southampton-Sussex wins, the team will advance to sectional play in Kempsville next week; if the team loses, a second game will be played against Smithfield to determine which team advances.

AMERICAN PONY ALL-STARS
The Southampton-Sussex American Pony 13- and 14-year-old All-Star team was eliminated from the district tournament after two losses. The team lost to Windsor on Monday and Smithfield Tuesday.

MUSTANGS ALL-STARS
The Southampton-Sussex Mustang 9- and 10-year-old All Stars placed second in the district tournament in Windsor.
Play opened on July 5, with an 18-5 win against Windsor in four innings followed by a 10-6 come-from-behind win over Holland the next night.
“We were down by one run and scored four runs in the sixth inning to come back,” said Coach Ronald Johnson.
On Friday, the Mustangs defeated Suffolk 4-3 in the semi-finals, which set up the championship series. The Mustangs lost 9-4 and 9-1 to Suffolk, allowing Suffolk to take the title.
The Mustangs on Saturday, July 16, will play in a tournament in Prince George.

BRONCO ALL-STARS
The Southampton-Sussex 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars went 3-0 in the district tournament in Windsor and advanced to sectional play in Kempsville.
In district play, the team defeated Windsor 3-0, Suffolk 7-6 and Windsor 13-3 in the title game.
The team lost 6-4 to Southern Chesapeake in the first game of sectionals and defeated Kempsville 13-6 on Wednesday.
During Wednesday’s game, Southampton-Sussex player Brendan Simms pitched three innings, allowing one run on four hits. Nash Warren pitched three innings, allowing five runs on five hits. Seth Edwards pitched one inning, giving up no runs or hits.
Southampton-Sussex player Jackson Smith went 2-for-3 and threw three base runners out attempting to steal. Tyler Dodson went 2-for-3 and Davis Carwile went 2-for-4 with a double.
Southampton-Sussex on Thursday night played the loser of the Western Branch Blue and Great Neck. Results were not available as of press time. If Southampton-Sussex wins, the team will play at 8 p.m. Friday in Kempsville.
