SOUTHAMPTON—A Franklin man died in an 11:40 p.m. Thursday crash after the car he was driving overturned and he was thrown, Virginia State Police said.
Chuck Barry Ricks, 50, from the 300 block of Artist Street was pronounced dead at the scene on Route 258, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya.
Ricks was driving south on Route 258, just south of Bethany School Road, in a 1999 Buick Skylark when he lost control on a curve, overcorrected and ran off the road.
Police said they determined that alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash. Ricks was not wearing a seat belt.
