SEDLEY—A 6-year-old by this morning was expected to be released from a Norfolk hospital after being injured in a ATV accident on Tuesday evening, said Sgt. Wanda Covington with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies at 5:35 received a complaint concerning three four-wheelers on Cabin Point Road. They responded and found a woman, the 6-year-old and a 15-year-old on separate ATVs.
The woman did not have identification, and deputies agreed to follow her to her nearby home to get it. On the way, the 6-year-old, riding a child-size ATV, went into a ditch and suffered abrasions, Covington said.
“According to a review of the video from the (patrol) car’s camera, it doesn’t appear he was run over,” she said
The boy was flown to Norfolk, which tends to be the norm for ATV accidents, even when the injuries are not that serious, Covington said.
