FRANKLIN—Travis Brown rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns Friday night to lead Franklin High to a 42-22 non-district win over King & Queen County.
Franklin, which improved to 6-1, led 22-8 at halftime and coasted in the second half.
“Our kids executed well and now we will prepare for our game next Friday with Sussex Central,” said FHS head coach Darren Parker.
The visitors looked impressive on their opening drive, using a combination of single-wing and double-wing offenses to march down the field and take an 8-0 lead.
The Broncos didn’t get on the scoreboard until early in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Terry Warren. Brown added the two-point conversion to tie the game at 8.
Set up by his own interception, Brown broke free for a 26-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion to give FHS its first lead at 16-8.
On offense again later in the quarter, Bronco quarterback Delvonte Boone went to the air on back-to-back plays, connecting with Brown for 42 yards and Marcus Stephens for 6 yards.
Brown added his second touchdown on a 20-yard run and another two-point conversion for the 22-8 halftime margin.
After returning the second-half kickoff to the visitors’ 30-yard line, Brown busted through the Tiger line for a 17-yard TD run. The two-point conversion failed, but the Broncos led 28-8.
The Tigers cut the lead to 28-16 before Franklin touchdowns by Latrell Lane and Keon Cosby clinched the victory.
Deshawn Saunders led the Broncos with 11 tackles. Tavis McKinney and Raquan Wright had 10 apiece.
