Windsor, Franklin girls qualify for Region A volleyball tournament

FRANKLIN—Windsor and Franklin volleyball teams qualified for the Region A playoffs, which begins Monday.
Coaches from both teams on Thursday night are expected to learned where and who their teams will play.
Windsor was 15-6 overall and 8-1 in the Tri-Rivers District and won Saturday’s district tournament in Franklin. The Lady Dukes had to play a tiebreaker against Appomattox Regional Governor’s School to determine rankings for the tournament; both teams were 7-1.Windsor won 3-0 with set scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-6.
The No. 1 seed Lady Dukes then defeated No. 4 Surry 3-0, with sets scores of 25-15, 25-10, 25-13. Windsor swept the Governor’s School 3-0 for the title, with scores of 25-19 25-12, 25-19.
Franklin placed third in the district tournament and district, going 13-3 overall and 3-3 in the district.
Named to the district First Team for the Lady Dukes were seniors Lauren Arrington and Chelsea Nordlund, sophomore Allison Griggs and freshman Kellie Mathews. Chosen for the Second Team were seniors Hannah Anderson and Brittany Stephens. Senior Morgan Darden received honorable mention.
Franklin sophomore Aysa Lee was chosen for the Second Team and Areil Darden was given honorable mention.
