COURTLAND—A Franklin man was arrested after a Southampton County Sheriff’s deputy allegedly found him in possession of 4.6 grams of suspected cocaine and .5 grams of suspected marijuana.
Sgt. J.A. Wyche at 6:37 a.m. Nov. 3 stopped an unidentified motorist for a traffic violation on Southampton Parkway. During the traffic stop, suspect Antonio Daunte Hayslett, 30, of Council Road — a passenger in the vehicle — reached into his pants pocket.
“Wyche instructed him to take his hands out of his pocket and put his hands on the dash,” said Sgt. Wanda Covington, spokeswoman with the sheriff’s office. “Hayslett again took his hands off the dash and was again instructed to put them back on the dash. Wyche had Hayslett step out of the vehicle and observed him trying to step on a plastic baggie.”
That’s when Wyche allegedly found the suspected drugs.
Hayslett is free on bond.
