David Edwards ‘Snooks’ Turner Sr.

BOYKINS—David Edward “Snooks” Turner Sr., born on March 24, 1916, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, November 17, 2011.

He was the son of the late James Thomas and Elizabeth Bryant Turner.

He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and he retired as a mechanic from Georgia Pacific, Conway, N.C.

He was predeceased by two wives, Fannie Bell Pope Turner and Beatrice Drake Lee Turner; three half-brothers, Jack, Henry and Max Turner; half-sister, Molly; four brothers, Bartholomew, Joshua, Nathan and Samuel Turner; two sisters, Maggie Dunlow and Adelaide Dunlow; three stepsons, Lynn, Robert and Jimmie Lee; and son-in-law, Dr. Carlos Pinto.

He is survived by six children, David E. Turner Jr. (Alice Pope) of Drewryville, Kathryn Buckner (Edward) of Jacksonville, Fla., Pete (Gilda) of Boykins, Wallace (Betty) of Branchville, Gloria Pinto of Southern Shores, N.C, Gayle Johnson (Ronnie) of Capron; stepson, Stephen Lee of Boykins; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, November 19, 2011, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, and other times at the home of Gayle and Ronnie Johnson, Dicken’s Lane, Capron.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011, at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Spirizzi officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Boykins Volunteer Fire Department.
