Michael ‘Mike’ John Sergides

SEDLEY—Michael (Mike) John Sergides, 86, passed away January 11, 2012 at the East Pavilion in Franklin, VA.
Born on July 1, 1925 in Karavas, Kyrenia, Cyprus, Mike was the son of the late John and Anastasia Pourkouris. Mike immigrated to the United States in 1950 and became a U.S. Citizen. He was a retired restaurateur who had co-owned and operated the Voyager Restaurant in Norfolk, VA and was the owner of the Airway Restaurant and Inland Cove Seafood Restaurant in Franklin, Virginia. Mike enjoyed history, politics and gardening. He was a former cantor at the St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church in Hopewell, VA, a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk, VA, a member of the AHEPA #155, and Masonic Lodge #151 of Franklin. Mike also served a two year term in the British Army.
He was predeceased by his parents and nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Bessie D. Sergides; a sister, Melpou Charalambous of Cyprus; his daughters Demetra S. Casper and her husband Rodney of Carrsville and Stacie S. Cutchins and her husband Brian of Franklin; his four grandchildren, Wyatt and Drake Casper and Rhea and Noah Cutchins and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
A funeral will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk, VA, conducted by The Very. Rev. Archimandrite Ambrose Bitziadis-Bowers. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin from 7 to 8:30.
