IWA boys advance with double-overtime win

PORTSMOUTH – The Isle of Wight boys’ basketball team rode clutch foul shooting to a 65-61 double-overtime victory against Portsmouth Christian in the first round of the Metro Athletic Conference
The Chargers went seven-for-10 from the free-throw line in the last two minutes of the second overtime period. Those conversions were the final seven points of the game for IWA.
The Chargers move to 20-6 overall with the win and will advance to the semifinals of the tournament to face Atlantic Shores at 7:30 tonight, Feb. 24 at Alliance Christian in Portsmouth.
The win also marks four consecutive 20-win seasons for this year’s group of seniors, who have played together since seventh grade.
Nathan Silvertson led the team with 15 points and 17 rebounds in the win. Rainer Marfio added 12 points and Ben Epps scored 11.
