IWA loses in first round to Norfolk Christian

NORFOLK – The Isle of Wight Academy boys’ basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 59-52 loss to Norfolk Christian in the first round of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state tournament Tuesday night.
The Chargers held on to a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, but a 10-2 run that saw the Ambassadors take a 23-17 lead, put Norfolk Christian ahead for good.
IWA closed the gap to six at 45-39 on a three-pointer by Ben Epps with 6:18 left to play, but the Ambassadors responded by scoring the next 11 points to take a 16-point lead with 3:32 remaining.
IWA junior Nathan Sivertson finished with 17 points. Epps had 13 and teammate Collin Bowden had 10 in the loss, including a pair of threes.
