TA wins final conference game

WAKEFIELD—Tidewater Academy’s Michael Webb pitched struck out seven and gave up three hits in a 4-2 win Tuesday over Fuqua.
The win moves TA to 12-5 overall and 5-5 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.
Daniel McKenney led off with a double and scored on an RBI single from Peyton Holdsworth. A Fuqua error led to another run.
Holdsworth and McKenney each went 2-for-3 in the win. Holdsworth added two RBIs.
In action from Monday, TA defeated Southampton Academy 2-1 in a game TA Coach Paul Rogers called “as fine a game played in high school as you’ll see.”
Holdsworth gave up five hits. Raider Tonee Hill pitched gave up three hits in an errorless game.
The Warriors’ two runs came on bunts.
“It was one of those games where you hate to see either team lose because both teams played so well,” Rogers said.
The VCC tournament starts Tuesday, May 8, with tops seeds hosting quarterfinal games. The semifinals and finals will begin Friday, May 11, in Wakefield.
