WILLIAMSBURG—A shortened, three-inning game kept Isle of Wight Academy pitcher Bailey Key from a perfect game Tuesday against Williamsburg Christian.
Key struck out seven and retired all nine batters in the No. 2-ranked Lady Chargers’ 18-0 win called early for a mercy rule, said Coach Chris Hooper.
The Lady Chargers scored three runs in the first inning and 15 in the second.
Lindsay Coble went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Carson Saunders went three-for-four with three runs scored and an RBI, and Shelby Jurewicz went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
The Lady Chargers played Broadwater Academy Thursday for the regular season Metro Athletic Conference championship. Results weren’t available as of press time.
IWA will play in its first conference tournament game at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at home.
