WINDSOR—A Smithfield man was arrested for allegedly attempting to steal stainless steel livestock feeders from a Windsor farm.
It’s believed Tobias K. Greene, 25, wanted the feeders so he could recycle them for the cash, said Lt. Bob Fox with the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office.
“We’ve been having farm equipment stolen so it can be recycled for scrap,” Fox said.
Deputies on Wednesday went to the farm in the 12000 block of Blue Ridge Trail, where they found Greene allegedly attempting to get a pickup out of the mud in a field, Fox said. Deputies determined that the feeders were normally kept in another field and had been placed in the truck before it got stuck.
Before deputies arrived, the feeders had been dragged out of he truck and dumped in another field in an alleged attempt to disguise the theft, Fox said.
Greene was charged with grand larceny, trespassing and possession of suspected cocaine. He is free on $3,500 bond.
