SA graduate looks to life in sports after volleyball career

The Branchville native, who played Division 1 volleyball at Winthrop University, is working on her doctorate in physical therapy at Old Dominion University.
The daughter of Chip and Linda Felts began her career at Winthrop in 2007. As a freshman, Sara Felts helped Winthrop with a regular season conference championship and a runner-up in the conference tournament with a 20-12 record.
During that season, she had 126 kills and15 digs.
A highlight in Felts’ career happened during her sophomore year when Winthrop defeated top-ranked Liberty 3-1.
“We had never beaten them at their place,” Felts said.
That season also saw the Eagles take down South Carolina 3-1 and lose to William & Mary. Felts was third on the team that year with 269 kills and fourth with 91 digs.
Chip Felts said his daughter has always been an athlete and it was her play with a club team in Richmond that caught the attention of coaches at Winthrop, who offered her a full scholarship.
Her parents went to most of her games and Sara Felts’ mother, Linda kept a scrapbook.
“We’ve had a ball following her and watching her play,” he said.
