N.C. man charged in fatal wreck

FRANKLIN—A North Carolina man has been charged in connection with a Saturday head-on collision that left a Norfolk man dead, Virginia State Police reported.
Christopher Roosevelt Scott, 52, died at a hospital after the 8:30 p.m. crash on Armory Drive at the exit ramp to the Route 58 bypass, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya.
Scott was riding in a car driven by Joycene Yvonne Scott, 45, of Courtland, who was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Charged with involuntary manslaughter was Christopher Lee Bailey, 26, of Gates, who was drunk when the crash occurred, Anaya said.
Bailey was driving a 2006 GMC Envoy south and crossed the median, hitting a northbound Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Joycene Scott, Anaya said. Joycene Scott remained in critical condition at Sentara Norfolk Regional Hospital on Wednesday, a hospital spokesman said.
Bailey was treated and released from Southampton Memorial Hospital, charged and taken to Southampton County Jail.
He was not wearing a seatbelt. Joycene Scott was wearing a seatbelt.
