Shaking things up

Thank goodness for folks like Lorraine Greene Whitehead, who enjoy giving us a little fun.
A reading specialist and teacher-parent liaison for Southampton County Schools, Whitehead plans to have 100 bridesmaids when she marries Tilghman Phelps on March 16 in Franklin.
Sounds crazy, but is it really so crazy?
From what we hear, Whitehead is a woman who makes friends instantly. She’s open, warm and fun. A longtime Western Tidewater resident, the 57-year-old Sedley woman is probably one of those people who knows just about everyone here and has some strong friendships.
Anyone wishing to be a bridesmaid will not have to spend a lot of money on a dress. Whitehead simply asks that her bridesmaids find something in their closet — maybe a dress from another wedding never expected to be worn again.
There will be no rehearsal, thus no rehearsal dinner, just a big party after the ceremony at Paul D. Camp Community College’s Regional Workforce Development Center.
So, thank you, Lorraine, for putting a little fun in our lives. Even those who do not know you, will probably be touched and share your story.
