FRANKLIN—The score for Windsor and Franklin’s top three golfers left the teams tied at 177 each after a Tuesday Tri-Rivers District match at Cypress Cove Country Club.

Windsor freshman Hunter Marshall’s score of 60 on the nine-hole, par-36 course made the difference.

“He put us over,” said Windsor Coach Broc Smith, whose Dukes are 5-0 on the season.

Windsor finished with a 236 and was followed by Franklin with 246 and Surry 264. Sussex did not have enough players for a team score.

Windsor senior Cody Reese won his third match in five outings with a 50; he also tied for first during another match against Franklin senior Grant Scarboro.

Following Reese on Tuesday were Scarboro with 54; Tevin Sumblin of Franklin, 56; Kyle Hollowell of Windsor and Jacob Pittman of Sussex, both 59; Marshall; and Chad Benton with Franklin and Sean Dejiacomo, both 67.

Smith called the outing a struggle for just about everyone.

“Honestly, I just don’t know (why),” he said. “Maybe the long weekend.”

Franklin and Windsor at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, will play at Dogwood Trace Golf Course in Petersburg.
