WAKEFIELD—Tidewater Academy rookie volleyball Coach Jimmy Dunn has taken over for Amanda Binford.
TA Athletic Director Walter Westbrook said conflict with Binford’s job did not allow her to continue coaching. She led the Lady Warriors to a 13-6 record last season and a berth in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference semifinals last season
The Lady Raiders lost one senior, while the core group has been together for years, Westbrook said.
That experience will help, Dunn added.
“We’ve got a good group of senior leadership,” he said. “We’re looking forward to a good year.”
Dunn, who works full time for the Virginia Department of Agriculture, has never coached volleyball, but has been around the game for several years.
“Coaching is a lot different,” he said. “It’s a learning process.”
TA won its season opener against Appomattox Regional Governor’s School and played Amelia Academy at Thursday in Wakefield; results weren’t available as of press time.
