Franklin remains undeated after beating Surry 54-6

SURRY—Franklin’s Latrell Lane rushed for 150 yards and touchdowns for 35 and 70 yards to help the Broncos to a 54-6 Tri-Rivers District win over host Surry on Friday night.
Franklin improved to 6-0 and 1-0 in the district.
The Broncos rushed for 397 yards to Surry’s 16 yards. Franklin never passed the ball, while Surry quarterback Derrick Bailey completed four of 13 passes for 85 yards and one touchdown for a total of 101 yards on offense.
Travis Brown opened scoring for the Broncos on a 12-yard run with 7:37 left in the first quarter. Brown ran in for the two points.
Franklin’s Marcus Stephens caught an interception and scored on a 38-yard run with 1:28 left in the quarter. Brown picked up the two points, giving the Broncos a 16-0 lead.
With 11:45 left in the half, Franklin’s Xavier Freeman blocked a punt, which Zach Hopkins ran in for the score. Stephens’ attempt for two failed.
Stephens returned a punt for a 35-yard touchdown with 7 minutes to go in the second quarter. Angel Padilla kicked the goal.
Shane Walker scored on a 28-yard run, and Padilla’s kick was good with 4:12 left in the half.
With 2:02 left, Lane scored on his 70-yard run, giving the Broncos a 41-0 halftime lead.
Close to midway into the third quarter, Franklin’s Alson Cromwell, who rushed for 88 yards during the game, scored on a 15-yard run. Padilla’s kick failed.
A Bailey pass for 35-yards to Timothy Marsh gave Surry its only score. The run failed.
Latrell finished the game with a 35-yard run. Padilla’s kick was good.
