You asked: What is going on with the Hardee’s that was supposed to be built in Courtland?

COURTLAND—The date for opening a Hardee’s on Highway 58 in front of the Courtland Food Lion has not been set, but the fast-food restaurant is coming to town.

“Boddie-Noell still plans to open the Hardee’s in Courtland,” said Larry Williamson, senior director of human resources.

Williamson said the company is redesigning the building to open a larger restaurant than planned.

“Once the building plans are complete, we will apply for final permits and begin construction soon after,” he said. “ We are looking forward to being a part of the Courtland community.”

The company in January 2011 announced plans to begin construction that March. The Hardee’s was supposed to be open that June, creating 50 to 60.

While a construction plan was OK’d, the building permit wasn’t issued.

“The most recent plans were approved in the last year to a year-and-a-half, said Beth Lewis, director of Community Development for Southampton County. “We weren’t informed why they didn’t go forward.”

No other details were made available to her department.

Boddie-Noell owns all of the Hardee’s in Virginia, including the restaurants in Franklin and on Route 58 in Emporia and Suffolk.

Boddie-Noell Enterprises is the largest franchiser of Hardee’s restaurants in the world, owning 340, including 229 in Virginia.
