Former Franklin woman appointed

Former Franklin resident Dr. Pamela Haney has been named vice president of Academic Affairs at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Ill.

A 1987 Franklin High School graduate, she is the daughter of Gloria Revell of Carrsville and the late Rev. Joseph S. Greene, and the granddaughter of Mary Green of Franklin.

As the former dean of science, business and computer technology at Moraine Valley, Haney oversaw the departments of biological sciences, business and culinary, computer integrated technologies, information management systems, mathematics and physical sciences.

She has also served as dean of liberal arts and academic services and worked with student development.

Haney from 2006-2009 served as university ombudsman for faculty and staff at the University of Nevada-Reno, was the program administrator and an assistant professor of communication arts at Defiance College in Ohio, and an assistant professor of speech communication at Norfolk State University.

She holds a doctorate in interpersonal communication from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Norfolk State.

Michael “Big Mike” Lawyer, a former member of the Franklin High School Band and boys’ tennis team, plays the tuba for the Virginia State University Marching Explosion Band.

Margaret Cobb received a Champion $500 Club medallion for being the top fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association’s Western Tidewater Walk in Suffolk.

Margaret raised $1,153. She continues to receive donations in memory of her husband,

Leah-Beth Williams, a member of the Caregivers Always Faithful Team with Margaret, lost her husband, Ralph, to Alzheimer’s.
