Former Franklin resident Ben Phelps and his band, the Ben Phelps Project, will play during a benefit concert on Saturday, Dec. 15, for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

A teacher at Windsor Middle School, Phelps is organizing Charity for Cheer, which will also feature Bria Kelley of Smithfield, a semifinalist from last season’s “America’s Got Talent;” Virginia Beach teen rock and blues guitarist Grant Austin Taylor, who headlined at the Isle of Wight County Fair; and Augustine from Virginia Beach.

To be held at the NorVa in Norfolk, the concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12; $2 from every ticket will go to the American Red Cross.

• Thanksgiving brought music writers/producers Joshau and Jeremy Coleman to Franklin, where they had dinner at the home of their uncle and aunt, Frank and Almeta Davis.

Joshau, 25, professionally known as Ammo, and his brother, Jeremy, 21, professionally known as J Mike, work for Prescriptions Songs. Jeremy also writes and produces for Warner Music Group.

Joshau has worked with the likes of recording artist Britney Spears, rapper Kesha, rhythm and blues artist Jordin Sparks, and singers Miranda Cosgrove, Katy Perry, Jesse McCartney.

Joshau and Jeremy are collaborating on songs for artists Jason Derulo, Mike Posner, Miley Cyrus, Selana Gomez and Jessi J on upcoming singles and albums.

The brothers live in Los Angeles. Both of their parents are into music. Their mother is minister of music at her church in Baltimore.
