SA girls win 43-22

COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy girls’ basketball team outscored Virginia Commonwealth Conference opponent Brunswick Academy in the second half to win 43-22 on Friday.
The Lady Raiders led 17-12 at halftime.
“We had a very good second half,” said SA Coach Chris Pope. “We played great team defense.”
SA improves to 5-7 in the VCC.
Junior Morgan Pope led the Lady Raiders with 22 points, while senior Barclay Gatten pulled down 12 rebounds.
“Brunswick ran a box defense on Sarah Best and that basically took her out of the game,” Pope said.
The 9-11 Lady Raiders host Christchurch School for a 5:30 p.m. VCC make-up game on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
