COURTLAND—The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating three burglaries, including one in the Courtland area involving the theft of $6,000 worth of jewelry.
Major Gene Drewery said it’s unknown if the break-ins are related.
“We don’t have anything that says that right now,” Drewery said.
There are no suspects.
A neighbor on Barrow Road, where the jewelry was stolen during a Wednesday daytime break-in, said a black sport utility vehicle pulled into his driveway. A 6-foot-2 black man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black ball cap got out of the Ford Explorer and knocked on his door, Drewery said.
Two dogs began barking inside the home and the man left, he said. The neighbor, who didn’t answer the door, noticed a second black man in the Explorer.
The first burglary occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning at Southampton Veterinary Clinic on Delaware Road, Drewery said. A dog crate, gallon of shampoo, gallon of conditioner and dog grooming kit were taken.
A home on nearby Monroe Road in the Franklin area was burglarized Wednesday. Entry was made through a back door. A gun, cash and iPod were taken.
